What money can do….

There is this good story, which I read some time back about “what money can do”.

The story goes this way.

There is this priest who comes running to the road from the bushes of a dense forest shouting “DEATH DEATH” . Three brothers who were passing by happen to check with the priest as to what happened and the priest points his finger towards the thick bush and runs away.

Out of curiosity the three brothers get inside the bush and to there surprise finds a bag full of gold coins. The three brothers were delighted and thinks that how stupid the priest could be. They manage to carry the bag of gold coins to their residence, on there way back since they were hungry they ask one of the brothers to get some food to eat while the other two take care of bag.

The two brothers who were taking care of the bag decides to kill the third one so that they can enjoy his share of gold coins too. The third brother comes with some fruits for the other two and the two brothers kills the third one as per the plan. They eat the fruit, which the brother had brought so that they can continue their journey back home. But the third brother had put some poison in the fruit that he had brought and had planned to kill both of his brothers so that he can enjoy the bag of gold coins.

Finally, all the three brothers died with out being able enjoy even a single gold coin.

As the title says what money can do, think about it!

Friendship with an enemy is a temporary affair

Once upon a time, there lived an owl in a big banyan tree. A mouse, a cat and a mongoose also shared his neighborhood. They all feared each other. The owl was scared of the cat. The mouse would be frightened to see the owl, the cat or the mongoose. The owl and the cat were the enemies of the mongoose. But despite all these problems all of them continued living at the same place.Once a hunter came under the banyan tree. He spread his snare there and waited at a distance for some animal to be trapped in. After sometime, the cat came there looking for the mouse. She stepped on the snare and got trapped. Seeing the cat in the net the mouse became happy and came out of his hole and began taking rounds of the trap in great joy.

Seeing the rat dancing outside his hole, the owl and the mongoose began to look at him with greedy eyes. The rat got frightened. ‘The owl and the mongoose would surely kill me and eat me’, thought the rat to himself. Also there were no chances for him to re-enter his hole, as both of his enemies were very near him.

The rat became nervous. He had to take a quick decision anyhow, lest he should be killed by the owl or the mongoose. At this dangerous stage, there was but one hope of survival, that he entered the trap and sat beside the cat and then request her to spare his life. If the cat did so, he would as a matter of his gratitude, nibble at the net at a hundred places to make it loose enough to set the cat free.

The rat took the chance of his life and ran into the trap beside the cat. The cat was about to pounce upon him, when he said to her, “Please don’t kill me. If you spare my life, I’ll bite off the trap at a number of places to set you free.”

The cat agreed to the proposal of the rat and let him remain inside the net. Seeing the rat and the mouse together, the owl and the mongoose went away.

Then the mouse nibbled at the net at a hundred places. The cat came out of the trap and ran away into the dense forest. So did the mouse. He too ran into his hole.

The next day, when the cat wanted to meet the mouse, the mouse refused saying that enemies will be enemies; everything else like friendship between them will just be a temporary affair.

The day dreaming priest

Once upon a time there lived a priest who was extremely lazy and poor at the same time. He did not want to do any hard work but used to dream of being rich one day. He got his food by begging for alms. One morning he got a pot of milk as part of the alms. He was extremely delighted and went home with the pot of milk. He boiled the milk, drank some of it and put the remaining milk in a pot. He added slight curds in the pot for converting the milk to curd. He then lay down to rest. He was extremely delighted at the pot of milk he found and started dreaming about the pot of curd while he lay asleep. He dreamt that if he could become rich somehow all his miseries would be gone. His thoughts turned to the pot of milk he had set to form curd. He dreamt on : “By morning the pot of milk would set, it would be converted to curd. I would churn the curd and make butter from it. I would heat the butter and make ghee out of it. I will go to that market and sell that ghee, and make some money. With that money i will buy a hen. The hen will lay may eggs which will hatch and there will be many more hens and cocks. These cocks and hen will in turn lay hundreds of eggs and I will soon have a poultry farm of my own.” He kept on imagining.

“I will sell all the hens of my poultry and buy some cows, and open a milk dairy. All the town people will buy milk from me. I will be very rich and soon I shall buy jewellery. The king will buy all the jewellery from me. I will be so rich that I will be able to marry an exceptionally beautiful girl from a rich family. Soon I will have a handsome son. If he does any mischief I will be very angry and to teach him a lesson, I will hit him with a big stick.” During this dream, he involuntarily picked up the stick next to his bed and thinking that he was beating his son, raised the stick and hit the pot. The pot of milk broke and he awoke from his sleep. Only then did he realise he was daydreaming.

MORAL: There is no substitute for hard work. Dreams cannot be fulfilled without hard work.

The swan and the owl

Once upon a time there lived a swan who used to spend time in various playful activites on a lake. Once an owl visited him in the forest and requested him to be friends, after praising the swan a lot. The swan agreed to be friends with him and they used to spend time near the lake a lot of days.

But the owl soon got bored of the place and told the swan, “I am going back to my home in the Lotus wood, and if you ever want to visit me you can visit me there.” The swan, after many days once decided to pay a visit to the owl in the Lotus wood. On reaching Lotus wood, it could not find the owl, which was hiding in the dark hole. The owl asked the swan to take rest till daylight was over and told him that he could come out only at night. The swan decided to take rest.

It so happened that a group of merchants were passing by the next day early morning. The merchants chanted some hymns, and to that the owl replied with a hoot. Thinking that this was a bad omen, the merchants then decided to shoot the owl down. But in the meantime the owl had fled and taken refuge in a nearby hole near the shore of the lake. But the swan did not move. The arrow from the merchants came and hit the swan and it was killed

Yoga for better Sleep

Sleep means total relaxation of body and mind, no activity of mind, no movement in mind. It is the state of unconsciousness as for as outwards moving consciousness is concerned. Mind does not function in real sleep. If dream is there, it is not sleep.

Sleep is very important support to health. Sleep holds a unique value for Health and can be even considered as one of the boons which God has given to Human beings. Natural sleep gives complete rest to the body and mind and provides psychic energy and enthusiasm. But if we do not know how to take natural sleep, it may not be much helpful in giving rest. To keep anyone awake without allowing him to sleep is one of the cruelest punishments that can be given to anybody. If sleep is taken away from human beings, the entire world will be converted into a madhouse.

A tired and spent person gets relief and is able to retrieve his liveliness and energy only after taking sound sleep. Sleep is a law of nature which is applicable not only to human beings but also to the botanical world. Our physical and mental health depends a great deal on sleep. In our country, the rule of ‘early to bed and early to rise’ has been followed traditionally. However, this practice has been very adversely affected by the fast pace of urbanization and industrialization. In this context this is also relevant to remember that sleep of 6 to 8 hours at any point of time during the 24 hours of a day is not sufficient for health. This sleep, in order to be beneficial to health, should be taken only at the appointed time of nature i.e. during night.

Now a day insomnia and sleeplessness is common problem amongst people due to alteration in working pattern, tension, anxiety, uneven life style etc. We are not taking this fact seriously .This will lead to many incurable and dangerous life threatening problems. We are destroying our body and health. We are so busy that we are not spending a little time for our health.

Yoga and Pranayama is an important measure to reduce work place negativity, tension, anxiety and so many other problems. Regular practice of pranayam and yoga cures insomnia and sleeplessness and gives better health. If every person follows this regime, this will eradicate diseases from world.

  • Bhastrika pranayam 3 to 5 minute
  • Kapalbhati pranayam 3 to 5 minute
  • Anulom Vilom pranayam 5 to 10 minutes
  • Bhramari pranayam 5 to 10 times
  • Udgith Pranayam 5 to 10 times
  • Ujjai Pranayam 5 to 10 times

Besides this Shavasan and Yognidra is very much useful for sound sleep. These practices are able to cure all types of ailments. Listening to light music like mantras before sleep is beneficial in insomnia and sleeplessness.

Brain 2

Think of words ending in ‘gry’. Angry and hungry are two of them.
There are only three words in the English language.
What is the third word?
The word is something that everyone uses every day.
If you have listened carefully,
I have already told you what it is.”
